Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met October 16, 2011, after a noon meal. There were 19 members present.
The meeting was opened with a devotional based on Psalm 139:3, which reads: “I am familiar with all your ways.” God is fully acquainted with and intimately knows us, which can make some of us uncomfortable. Even with our flaws and inadequacies, He still desires to be our Father. Intimacy begins with us simply lowering our defenses to let Him into our lives.
The September monthly meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were read and approved.
While presenting the pastor’s report, Pastor Dwight encouraged us to visit and/or send cards to uplift our fellow members in nursing homes and assisted living facilities and those home recuperating. He continues to be pleased with the high number of Amboy community members who come together for worship during the festival each year, which was repeated at last month’s service. The Men’s Bible study is off to an impressive start as well as the corresponding Sunday School class. Another group activity, the SAM (Social Adult Meals) ministry has begun again. Lastly, Pastor Dwight reminded us to use the church calendar hanging on the upstairs hallway bulletin board for all activities and committee meetings.
Lisa Vincent presented the Missions Committee treasurer’s report, noting that with this month’s payments, this committee’s budget has been met for the year. Pastor Abby Walker only needed an additional $750 to finish her financial obligation to the mission she’s participating in, and this was paid. Another item worth noting is that the discretionary fund has dropped to just $75.
Old Business
In regard to the called meeting of the Indiana Yearly Meeting Representative Council, Clerk Michael Reynolds read the letter he sent. It has since been learned that the introduction of option 5 was not really an option but an implementation of option 4. Pastor Dwight did attend the meeting and reported that the decision was to approve option 4, taking the steps laid out in option 5.
A possible landscaping drawing was presented by Shari Auginbaugh with ideas for spring, after the April meeting. Trees could be removed before tuck pointing is finished on the front of the church, as they will need room for the boom to have access. Once that is complete, landscaping can begin. This was approved.
New Business
Winter Sneak is coming up in February, and the youth usually do fundraising to send members. The cost is $100 per person and usually 8 to 10 kids attend. Currently the youth treasury is approximately $570. Randy and Donna Overman have been interim leaders and are asking for help in executing this fundraising effort as their schedules limit the time they can devote to this.
Due to this month having five Sundays, it was suggested that the October 30 offering be collected for the discretionary fund. This was approved.
The next meeting will be November 20, 2011, after a noon meal.
The meeting was dismissed with prayer.
