Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting was held November 20, 2011, after a carry-in dinner with 26 members present.
With the Thanksgiving season upon us, Clerk Michael Reynolds opened the meeting with prayer and a devotional based on Revelation 7:11-12. A core attitude of thanksgiving is humility. We need to humble ourselves before our God, thanking Him for the gifts He gives.
The October monthly meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were read and approved.
Dwight Elliott’s pastor’s report summarized the past month’s activities, highlighting a successful Trunk or Treat and the Hunger Care mission dinner over the Halloween weekend. Approximately 175 pulled-pork meals were served at the church as well as through delivery. The Meeting would like to thank Stephanie Fruth and Roger Vincent for heading up this home mission effort. Dwight also pointed out that our attendance is staying steady in the 70s and new faces are seen in the congregation. He would like to see an organized welcome put together for new visitors. Looking ahead, December brings the Christmas season and readers are needed for the Christmas Eve service. In January, the sermon series will be entitled “Mind Your Own Business.”
Old Business
The Meeting is unaware if anyone stepped forward to help with fundraising for the youth group’s trip to winter sneak.
New Business
We will be hosting Tri-County Quarterly Meeting on December 4 with Indiana Yearly Meeting Superintendent Doug Shoemaker as speaker. Alan Hunt encouraged attendance since we are the host church. It is a great way to meet other Friends in the yearly meeting.
There will be no December monthly meeting. The January 15, 2012, meeting will follow a fundraising baked potato and chili bar dinner by the Haiti Mission Team.
Many committee treasurers’ reports will be due at the January meeting, including Trustees, Farm, Missions, Scrip, and the church treasurer.
The meeting was dismissed with prayer.
