Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met March 18, 2012, following a carry-in dinner. There were 27 members present.
Clerk Michael Reynolds opened with a reading about how our Quaker heritage influenced America.
The February meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were presented and approved. Clerk Reynolds informed the meeting that as of the end of February, we are ahead of our budget amount of $18,650 with an actual income of $20,101.
Pastor Dwight Elliott reported that he has been working with some people with addictions and, while we celebrate the successes, some are still struggling. He is encouraged by our reaching out to others with the Hunger Care meals and hopes those sow seeds of God’s love and caring in the community. Some members may be interested to know that John Lamb will be home for a brief visit in June. He has been teaching for several years in Palau. Lastly, Amboy Friends will host a Seder meal in the Family Life Center on April 3. Mary Brown is helping Pastor Dwight with the coordination of this event.
Old Business
Pastor Dwight shared an update on Yearly Meeting’s reconfiguration. The process is underway, and it is heartwarming to see God’s hand in helping it go smoothly and amicably.
New Business
Ministry & Oversight needs to appoint two new members to the Personnel Committee.
Quaker Haven is having a work week March 31-April 7, focusing on roofing Friendship Lodge. A “drywall party” will be the weekend prior on March 24. Currently, Quaker Haven is about $23,000 short of its financial goal. Construction of a brick walkway from the Meeting House to Vespers Point is in the planning stage. Bricks can be purchased for $100 or $250 with the contributor’s name engraved on the brick to be laid. Pastor Dwight proposed that the church purchase a brick. No action was taken at this time.
John Norris will be traveling to Kenya to represent Indiana Yearly Meeting at the Friends World Conference.
Some more of our church records have been returned to us in bound hardcopies. This leaves information from 1978 forward to still be done.
Greg Hunt noted that from his statistics report to Yearly Meeting, our reported membership is slightly down so our assessment payment is less.
The next meeting will be held April 15, following a chicken noodle dinner provided by Donna Overman and the Haiti Mission Team.
The meeting was dismissed with prayer.
