Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met July 21, 2013, after a carry-in meal. There were 19 members present.
Clerk Michael Reynolds opened with a devotion entitled “The Continuing Revelation” and prayer.
The June minutes were read and approved.
The treasurer’s report was presented and approved. The budget through six months of 2013 is $52,200; our offering income is $52,339. This brings us from a shortfall of $2,111 to a surplus of $139.
The pastor’s report was presented and approved. Pastor Dwight Elliott reported that the special Gideon offering on June 30 was $909. He also thanked Tracy Dubois for her help with a recent Little Caesar’s Pizza Kit Fundraiser, which helped send 21 campers to Quaker Haven this summer. Pastor Dwight shared that he graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies. He will now begin his recording process with Indiana Yearly Meeting.
The youth pastor’s report was presented and approved. Youth Pastor Brock Sizelove and the youth will lead morning worship on August 4.
The Missions Committee activities report was presented and approved. Activities for the year included hosting Brian and Lisa Mauller, CSI missionaries to Belize; making and delivering Christmas cookies to shut-ins; maintaining the missions bulletin board in the library; and providing relief aid for area flood victims.
Old Business
Wind Farm: A timeline of events was given in regard to the wind farm lease.
Evangelism & Outreach: The E&O Commission was discussed. Pastor Dwight shared that E&O was attempted to be started two years ago as a sub-committee of Ministry & Oversight. The commission never really took shape, and there is a question as to what should be done with it. Clerk Reynolds is attempting to clean up the text regarding E&O in the Clerk’s Guidebook as compared to Faith and Practice. He wants to define what is written and how funds are distributed. This item was tabled until the August meeting.
Growth Grant: Pastor Dwight shared that M&O is requesting approval to submit a Growth Grant Proposal to IYM E&O Committee with the thought of hosting a church-wide weekend retreat. The grant would help the church provide such a retreat without putting a financial burden on members who want to attend. The retreat would be held at Quaker Haven Camp and would focus on discipleship, fellowship, and coming together as a church family. Approval was given to submit the proposal to IYM E&O.
Trustees Projects: Work on the air conditioner is complete; we just need to raise the remaining balance. It was also noted that Clerk Reynolds spent many hours working on the flooding problems in the basement. He was recognized for his efforts.
The meeting was closed with prayer.
