Meeting Minutes: March 2014

Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met March 16, 2014, after a carry-in meal. There were 29 members present.

Assistant Clerk Tom Dubois opened with prayer.

The February minutes were read and approved with the correction of Amboy Friends being the sponsor church, not the mentor church, for Hemlock Friends.

Lucas Chupp was dedicated on March 2, 2014.

The treasurer’s report was presented and approved.

The pastor’s report was presented and approved. Pastor Dwight Elliott noted that he and Lori attended Mid-Winter Pastor’s Retreat and that M&O is pursuing its responsibilities as the sponsor for Hemlock Friends. Upcoming events include: Easter events (foot washing, stations of the cross, breakfast, egg hunt, worship) and a leadership camp in June for 16-23 year olds.

The Missions Committee treasurer’s report was presented and approved. Treasurer Kyle Dubois said that he still has several annual checks to write based on the budget, which will significantly decrease the current balance of $29,785.71. It was also announced that April’s Donut Sunday contributions will go to Quaker Haven.

The youth pastor’s report was presented and approved. Youth Pastor Brock Sizelove and the youth started a new series about Freedom in Christ, based on Galatians 3:1. He also shared that 31 people attended the combined ski trip with Sycamore Friends. Upcoming events include: a lock over during spring break, Sky Zone on April 6, watching Noah on April 13 with Maple Run and Sycamore Friends youth, and a Quaker Haven Camp promo evening on May 4.

New Business
Personnel Committee: M&O recommended June Overman and Shari Aughinbaugh for the Personnel Committee for 2015. Both recommendations were approved.

New Copier: Pastor Dwight received quotes for the purchase of a new copier and is recommending buying a new, black and white copier from Beckley’s (Kokomo) for $1,850 with a $130 one-year maintenance agreement. Sycamore Friends and Laird-Eddy Funeral Home use Beckleys and are pleased with their copiers and service. Donations of $800 have already been committed, leaving $1,050 to be raised. Pastor Dwight would like to see donations cover the cost of the copier so the Meeting only incurs the cost of the maintenance agreement. The current printer will be kept for use by Pastors Brock and Dwight. After some discussion, it was decided that Pastor Dwight will check on the specifics of the service agreement and try out the copier at Beckley’s with Clerk Michael Reynolds. Final approval will be given at the April meeting.

VBS Dates: Director Kelli Hunt announced that VBS will be held July 14-18, from 6-8:30 p.m.

Passion Play: Alan Hunt shared that Quaker Haven will have a Passion Play April 11-13 and April 18-19. Check out www.quakerhaven.com for more info.

Quarterly Meeting: Indiana Yearly Meetings’ $97,000 budget deficit was the topic during Tri-County Quarterly Meeting. Greg and Alan Hunt said it was a productive meeting that included those in attendance splitting up into groups and discussing alternative ways to raise funds to offset the shortfall. Ideas included: raising the current $75 membership assessment and missions budget to $120 per member, requesting voluntary contributions above the $75 assessment, asking for churches to give 10 percent of their annual budget instead of $75 per member, and having churches pay based on attendance rather than membership. A special Task Force will meet April 29 to compile the ideas collected from several budget meetings.

Barclay Choir: The Barclay College Choir will perform on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. The choir needs housing for 15 pairs of students following the concert. See Pastor Dwight if you are interested. Missions Chair Greg Hunt asked if the group would accept a freewill offering and suggested that May’s Donut Sunday could go toward this need. Pastor Dwight will check with the director.

The next meeting will be April 13 following a carry in.
