In July 2011, Friends United Meeting celebrated its Triennial sessions with the theme “Transforming Lives, Romans 12:2.” The theme for the new Triennium is “A Great People to Be Gathered.”
In 1652 the founder of Quakerism, George Fox, wrote, “From the top of [Pendle] hill the Lord let me see in what places he had a great people to be gathered.” Friends, those places are right where you and I live. Those people are you, me, the members of our monthly and yearly meetings, and our neighbors. In the power of the Holy Spirit, Friends United Meeting can spark a renewal, a global movement to “gather people into fellowships where Jesus Christ is known, loved, and obeyed as teacher and Lord” (FUM’s mission statement).
It is with this in mind that the FUM staff in Richmond, Indiana, will be appealing to you for your participation during the next three years. Friends are challenged to prayerfully envision the members, ministries, and resources of Friends United Meeting as part of a fresh movement of God’s Spirit in which we are gathered together, generously open to the Holy Spirit to do the Lord’s work.
*Each month through December 2012, FUM will focus on a different ministry. This Ministry of the Month corresponds with the FUM wall calendar that is available for $15 from www.fum.org/shop.
Please support the FUM Richmond Office with your daily prayers.
