Meeting Minutes – May 2012

Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met May 20, 2012, after a carry-in meal. There were 24 members present.

Clerk Michael Reynolds opened with a devotional on the Quaker process of decision making, which is a combination of an authoritarian and a consensus model. We could call it a dictatorship of the Spirit. We should come to meeting with open hearts, because hearts can change minds even when minds are made up.

The March meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were presented and approved. According to Stewardship & Finance, our shortfall has increased from $837 last month to $1,524 this month.

The pastor’s report pointed out that Yearly Meeting is sponsoring a Prayer Partners for Campers program. It is one way to keep churches involved with Quaker Haven Camp. Pastor Dwight is starting a series of sermons from the movie “Courageous” from Memorial Day through Father’s Day. He noted that he appreciates Kelli Hunt and Flossie Cantrell for coordinating the new church directory photos coming in August.

The Personnel Committee report will be presented next month as it was not quite complete. The other reports due at the June meeting are Trustees, Ministry & Oversight, Christian Education, Missions, and Sunday School year-end reports.

New Business
Pastor Dwight asked and received the meeting’s approval of his application for financial assistance from Indiana Yearly Meeting for the National Friends Pastor’s Conference in October.

Lori Elliott advised the meeting that Christian Education has decided to suspend Children’s Church through the summer. This will allow time to revamp the program. If anyone has any input or interest in helping, they should see Lori Elliott, Chris Miller, or anyone else on the Christian Education Committee.

The next meeting will be June 17 following a carry-in meal.

The meeting was closed with prayer.
