Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met June 16, 2013, after a carry-in pasta dinner. There were 28 members present.
Clerk Michael Reynolds opened with a devotion entitled “Why Worship” and prayer.
The May minutes were read and approved.
The treasurer’s report was presented and approved. The budget through May is $43,500. Our offering income is $41,380, so our shortfall has increased a bit to $2,111.
The pastor’s report was presented, reflecting another busy month. Pastor Dwight Elliott has enjoyed working with youth pastor Brock Sizelove as his enthusiasm for camp is contagious. Upcoming events are Yearly Meeting at the end of July with his vacation immediately following. Also a possible November campaign entitled “My Hope, America with Billy Graham.”
Pastor Dwight presented the youth pastor’s report in Brock’s absence. He encouraged us to send Brock e-mails and letters at Quaker Haven Camp while he is spending time there as a counselor for most of the camps this summer. A total of $678 was raised with the Little Caesar’s Pizza Kit sales to help pay for the 15 campers we have going to Quaker Haven from our youth. We may need to consider additional fundraisers in the future if our camper numbers continue to be high.
The Missions Committee treasurer’s report was presented and approved.
Year-end reports were given by Christian Education, Ministry & Oversight, and Trustees. The Missions Committee report will be received next month.
Old Business
In regards to the EON enquiry of our clerk’s authorization to sign documents, IYM had no documentation to support this. However, Superintendent Doug Shoemaker constructed a letter and also found a copy of the Yearly Meeting minutes as well as our minutes to verify Clerk Reynolds’ position.
Statistics meetings have begun to reorganize our records. The process of reviewing varying electronic storage programs is taking place and approval was given to purchase whichever the committee deems appropriate for our needs. This program will be stored on an external hard drive, and we will still keep our hard copies in the record books.
M&O reported that they will move forward with the recommendation of Pastor Dwight’s recording process after he completes his current studies in July.
New Business
It was noted that there is no Sunday School teacher for the youth while Brock is at camp. Clerk Reynolds will discuss this with Christian Ed to get this remedied.
There was some discussion about the wind farm controversy in the area. Will Monthly Meeting have the final say on whether the farm can lease the land for this use? Trustee Chair Reynolds stated that the contract has already been signed and that information was shared with the Monthly Meeting. Clerk Reynolds will review when that discussion took place.
Due to the limited time that Water 2 Wine had to present their concert to us, it was recommended that we condense our routine portions of our service when we have guest speakers in the future.
The meeting was dismissed with prayer.
