Meeting Minutes: May 2013

Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met May 19, 2013, after a carry-in dinner. There were 26 members present.

Clerk Michael Reynolds opened with a devotion and prayer.

The April minutes were read and approved.

The passing of Roscoe Rohrer on May 7, 2013, was recorded. He was 97 years old.

The treasurer’s report was presented and approved. Our year-to-date budgeted amount is $34,800. With our offering income of $34,236, we have a slight shortfall of $564.

The pastor’s report was presented, reflecting a busy month working with families affected by the flooding. The Free Meal ministry was utilized five times in nine days, serving over 500 meals. Pastor Dwight Elliott’s busy schedule is being somewhat alleviated for June with two Sunday services handled by guest speakers.

Youth Pastor Brock Sizelove’s report was also presented. He is getting ready for his summer camp schedule at Quaker Haven and is putting together a prayer partner program for Amboy Friends youth campers.

Personnel Committee Chairman Roger Vincent presented the committee’s assignments for the upcoming year. He encouraged current committee chairpersons to contact new members, invite them to the June meetings, and explain the responsibilities of the committee.

Old Business
Some volunteers have stepped forward to help sort and update our records. Mary Brown, Don Bailey, and Stephanie Dubois will help Statistician Greg Hunt with the task.

New Business
The pianos were recently tuned, and it was advised that a humidifier/dehumidifier be installed on the piano in the sanctuary. This will help retain the tuning, since we are decreasing the frequency of tuning appointments. A discussion was had on how to pay for the approximate $650 cost. It was decided, after a member offered a donation, that more donations would be requested. Hopefully, the goal will be met before the November tuning, the opportune time for installation.

The Free Meal ministry would like help to purchase two commercial-grade stainless steel pots at approximately $100 each. Again it was agreed that donations would be requested for this need.

Ministry & Oversight asked for approval to extend Pastor Dwight’s contract, which expires in June. This was approved.

Expenses for food and lodging for Flossie Cantrell during Mike’s hospitalization have been taken care of through generous donations from individuals and church committees. It was approved that the general budget would pay another week’s expenses, if necessary.

EON, the wind turbine company, has asked for a document stating who in our church organization is authorized to sign the legal documents for our agreement. Since Clerk and Trustee Chairman Michael Reynolds has searched in vain for such a document, he has written a letter for their benefit. Suggestions from the Meeting were made to get a statement from Doug Shoemaker, Indiana Yearly Meeting superintendent, or to use IYM’s legal counsel along with a minute from when Michael was named clerk. Another suggestion was to check with IYM as they may have the record needed for proof.

An inquiry was made about the progress of the landscaping project. The tuck pointing needs to be finished first and should be complete in about five weeks.

It was announced that Converse Church of Christ will be using our parking lot as a pick-up/drop-off location for a summer youth program.

Lastly, our meeting recognizes in Pastor Dwight Elliott the gift of ministry and would like to see him recorded as a minister with IYM. We would like for M&O to make this request to IYM.

The next meeting will be June 16, 2013, with annual reports due from Trustees, Missions, Christian Education, and M&O.

The meeting closed with prayer.

Michael Reynolds, Clerk
Amy Reynolds, Recording Clerk
