Meeting Minutes: May 2014

Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met May 18, 2014, after a carry-in meal. There were 28 members present.

Clerk Michael Reynolds read a poem written October 26, 1941, and opened with prayer.

The April minutes were read and approved.

The April and May treasurer’s reports were presented and approved. Clerk Reynolds shared that the budget through April is $35,237 with offering income totally $31,444. This leaves a shortfall of $3,793.

The pastor’s report was presented and approved. Pastor Dwight Elliott thanked the Christian Education, Ministry and Oversight, and Music Committees for their help with Easter Sunday. Upcoming events include a pulpit exchange with Hemlock Friends on June 1, guest speaker John Miru from Kenya on June 8, and Father’s Day on June 15.

The youth pastor’s report was presented and approved. Youth Pastor Brock Sizelove shared that the youth group finished its series on Freedom in Christ. He added that the group is not only showing growth in numbers, but, more importantly, breaking down barriers and seeing spiritual growth. Also, it’s less than a month away from the first camp at Quaker Haven. Although Brock will not be at church much during the summer months, he will be spending all summer with the kids at camp.

The Missions Committee treasurer’s report was presented and approved. It was asked how camp will be paid for, as there is $3,000 earmarked in Missions and funds designated for youth camps/conferences in the general church budget. It was decided that the church budget will pay the usual 50 percent for campers while Missions will pay for all scholarships and any shortfall of the 50 percent that the church budget doesn’t cover.

The Personnel Committee report was presented and approved. They are still waiting on a call back to fill the Social Committee vacancy. Clerk Reynolds noted that he has served a four-year and a five-year Trustees term and was going to serve one more year but was asked by the committee to fill another five-year term, which he will do.

Old Business
New Copier: The new copier, which only cost $1,800, is in and working great.

Nursery Project: Donna Overman and Debbie Hahn shared that $800 of the $1,200 needed has been donated. New toys have been purchased or donated and outlet covers have been installed. The youth group is going to help paint and window valances will be added. Major items still needed are two chairs (one for the nursery and one for the sleeping room), two Pack-n-Plays, and a TV to play children’s videos and praise and worship lullabies. Debbie said the room needs to be deep cleaned at least once a year and perhaps a group of four kids from Children’s Church can help clean it up once a week after service. Lori Elliott thanked Donna and Debbie for their hard work and said the kids didn’t want to leave the nursery this morning.

New Business
Missing Chairs: Clerk Reynolds announced that several chairs are missing. If you have borrowed them, please return them soon. Greg Hunt apologized and said he still has about 20 at the fire station. Alan Hunt suggested placing a sign-up sheet by the chairs so Trustees will know who has them. Clerk Reynolds will follow up.

Year-end Reports: Year-end reports are due at the June meeting.

Due to Father’s Day, the next meeting will be June 22 following a carry-in meal.
