Meeting Minutes: April 2014

Amboy Friends Monthly Meeting met April 13, 2014, after a carry-in meal. There were 26 members present.

Clerk Michael Reynolds read from a book of poems and opened with prayer.

The youth pastor’s report was presented and approved. Youth Pastor Brock Sizelove said March was “radtastic!” The youth started a new series about having freedom in Christ, discussing the way we view ourselves and how we view our identity through Christ. He also shared that Victor and Michelle Martinez have been volunteering with the youth and have already been a great blessing. He added that the lock in had 15 kids.

The March minutes were read and approved with the correction that the Indiana Yearly Meeting financial Task Force met March 29 not April 29.

There was no treasurer’s report. Clerk Reynolds stated that the budget through February was $17,618 with offerings totally $13,550. This leaves a shortfall of $4,068.

The pastor’s report was presented and approved. Pastor Dwight Elliott said March was busy with several meetings and events, including Tri-County Quarterly Meeting, Amboy’s Christian Education Committee, Quaker Haven Camp Board, and the Sap Run at Quaker Haven. He added that he will be co-preaching with Lori on Mother’s Day.

The Missions Committee treasurer’s report was presented and approved. Treasurer Kyle Dubois said he has written all the checks to missionaries we committed to sponsor. He also announced that the special offering for the Mast family totaled $3,000.

Alan Hunt reported on IYM Representative Council. Items discussed included Doug Shoemaker’s sabbatical August 15–November 15, 2014; the approval of Hemlock Friends as a new meeting; the approval of changes to Faith and Practice; and the changing of assessments which will go before IYM for approval for the 2015 fiscal year. If anyone is interested in volunteering for Triennial Meeting this summer, Alan has a list of needs.

Old Business
IYM Budget: It was approved to give $1,000.00 to IYM for the 2015 fiscal year.

New Copier: After some discussion, it was approved to purchase a copier for $1,850.

New Business
Membership Transfer: The transfer of membership of Rhea Lou Miller from Amboy Friends to St. Lukes United Methodist was recorded.

Tax Break: Tom Dubois reported that two youth group funds, the cemetery funds, and a fund for insurance deductibles are being held at Edward Jones in Wabash. If members want to donate stock to the church, they can do so without paying taxes on the amount donated. Clerk Reynolds added that Upward Basketball also has a $5,500 CD at Crossroads Bank in Wabash with the proceeds being used for scholarships. Trustees will be forming a sub-group to monitor these accounts and make investment decisions.

FUM Funding: John Norris shared that he received a letter from Friends United Meeting requesting additional operating funds. He noted that FUM is getting less money from IYM than previous years. This need was discussed.

The next meeting will be May 18 following a carry in.
